My wife and I were very lucky to get Akiko as our guide for a 4 hour walk around the area surrounding the Sagano/Arashiyama Train Station. I guess there is a similar street food walking tour near the Kyoto station but this tour is excellent as it is on the other side of the city, in its own neighborhood and has great street food. The tour also involves visiting several shrines and experiencing the neighborhood both at the street level and through the eyes of a local guide.

My wife and I were lucky that we were the only ones on tour with Akiko. She is absolutely fantastic in explaining everything but also helping you experience everything. We also appreciated that the tour company really thought about the entire experience from the paths you walk and the places you visit and where and when you stop to eat a specific type of food. Each item of food we ate was really delicious although I think our favorite was the pancake. Also, each place we stopped at was not something you would easily know was the best or a local experience without being on the tour.

My wife and I are big foodies and during our week in Japan we felt this was one of the best foodie experiences we had during our visit to Japan including when compared to all the Michelin starred restaurants we ate at. Wa Yamamura in Nara was the highlight of our trip and there was a great neighborhood sushi restaurant in Tokyo called Sushiya no Matsukan Azabu Honten no English so have the hotel call, only a few seats, Omakase so just enjoy what the chef offers but this experience ranked third ahead of other high end restaurants and therefore is a must do while in Kyoto.

In addition to the food and just walking the neighborhoods with an experienced guide we also enjoyed the shrines we visited in this area. We did two other bus tours and walking around and eating local food at the same time is a great way to experience the culture of the area.

Although I see from other reviewers that many of the guides are great, ask for Akiko.

The tour was well organised and very delicious! Our guide's English was great and we were able to enjoy the tour very much. There was no rush and we got Information we would never have gotten if we visited the places on our own. Highly recommended!

This tour was fantastic! Our tour guide, Kazu, was very personable and knowledgeable. Since we were fortunate enough to be in Arashiyama during Sakura I wanted to stop and take pictures of everything and the pace of the tour was such that I could. The foods we sampled were yummy.

If Arashiyama and Sagano are not on your list of places to see while in the Kyoto area, you need to add them. I would highly recommend this tour.

This tour was absolutely amazing. I was the only person on the tour so I was able to ask lots of questions and I was extremley well looked after by the guide whose name was Yumiko. The food stops were great and I got a detailed explanation of each different street food item as we went along, which for me as someone that works in the food industry and is a complete foodie was so interesting and informative! But the real icing on the cake for me was the lovely guide Yumiko who not only made the tour really enjoyable, when I happened to mention that I was having trouble trying to get a English to Japanes plug adaptor but wasn't having very much luck, Yumiko made it her mission to help me track one down, she made numerous calls and even ended up coming back into central Kyoto with me so I could find the correct store that she had managed to locate. A top class tour with a great insight into Japanese hospitality.

The walking food tour far exceeded our expectations. Yumiko was waiting for us at the designated meeting point area, with her great smile. She was the perfect guide since she loves Kyoto so much. We saw many places that if we went on our own would have missed. The bamboo forrest was awesome. The food was also better than we expected. But the best part of our tour was Yumiko. She was so friendly that the 4 of us never stopped chatting and laughing. Thank you again for making this tour so special. We would highly recommend this tour.

Let me start by saying that this tour was amazing! The tour isn't just a tour of local food, it's also a tour of the local sights. I had a fantastic time trying all the delicious foods that I would have never thought to try on my own. I also loved the bamboo forest and all the small shrines and paths that only locals would know about like a shrine that people go to to ward off hair loss!. Fuji, the tour guide, was very knowledgeable about the food and the area and was happy to answer all of my questions and even made sure I got to the right subway at the end of the tour!

If you're even considering taking this tour, book now, you won't regret it!

Fuji was a very knowledgeable, patient, and entertaining host for this tour. She even made me an origami crane to take home! I had a lot of fun. I highly recommend the tour for both the food and the mixture of places visited, though you should skip breakfast and be prepared for quite a bit of walking.

Wonderful tour and great guide Tatsuya. What i like in tours are the snippets of knowledge which you could not derive travelling alone or merely reading. We enjoyed the food especially the okonomiyaki, and the sights in Kyoto like the bamboo grove, the moss garden, the togetsu bridge and temples. Will recommend this to my family and friends!

My guide, Fuji, was an informative, delightful and helpful companion on the walk. The food stops were an opportunity to try delights that might otherwise have been missed. The temples and shrines were very interesting. Tenryu-ji temple garden was stunning and the bamboo grove is also something not to be missed. I was the only person on the walk with Fuji but that meant I was fortunate enough to have her all to myself.
