Gorgeous September day to drive up the Turnagain Arm, sail to Portage Glacier and visit the Wildlife Conservation Center. Our driver was very informative and very entertaining. Along the way there he pointed out the Beluga whales, eagles and a wolf running along side of us on the beach! Ended the day with a stop to see the salmon and then a view of Denali in the Chugach State Park near Flattop mountain. An unforgettable day!

Kris was our tour guide. He is a long time Anchorage area resident with a lot of experiences in the area. Our tour started with a beautiful day in Anchorage. Clear and sunny. We could see Denali from our hotel room in Anchorage. Kris took us to a viewing spot high in the hills of Anchorage so we could get a fantastic view of the area. We then drove along Turnagain Arm on our way to the Portage Glacier. Not a lot to see along the Turnagain Arm except for the Buluga whales which we did not see any. Once at the Portage Glacier area, we purchased lunch in the local lodge. Lunch was OK and expensive. The Portage Glacier cruise was fantastic as you get real close to the glacier for nice pictures and viewing. Cruise lasts about an hour. We then went to the Wildlife Wilderness Center. Overall the center has animals that were abandoned such as the bears which I believe were found in the wild with no mother. The bears were the highlight as they come close to the fence during feeding time and do a few things to get red meat. Overall the center is about 200 acres with a lot of wildlife that roam free (inside a fenced off area) but you get the feeling that center is struggling for money as have to ration the food, etc. Kris gave us a good tour of the center and was a great tour guide. I would recommend this tour if you have one day to spend in the area and want to get a good feel for what it is like.

great tour in spite of a very rainy day. Loved the wildlife at the wildlife conservation center, wish we had more time there. Knowledgeable guide.

Great trip! Our driver/guide, Susan, was excellent with a thorough knowledge of the area and a delightful personality. Much of the cost and value of the tour is related to the exceptional personalized service with all details worked out. The drive to Portage Glacier is spectacular, and the van is very comfortable with a nice high ceiling. The boat ride to view the glacier is tame, so no Dramamine needed. If you have never seen a glacier up close, this trip will be quite an experience. The lunch at the Portage Glacier restaurant offers an opportunity to get some great chowder, sandwiches and cookies. Food is not cheap, so plan on spending 7 for soup and 8 for sandwiches. The wild animal conservancy allows you to see all the key land animals of Alaska. The tour is a nice way to meet fellow travelers from around the globe. The areas of the tour were also essentially mosquito free. You need to allow most of the day for the tour, and in the summer you will have plenty hours of daylight. Of note, we booked the tour through Viator, and the printed information incorrectly identified our hotel as not a pick up site. We were very pleased to have the van pick us up and drop us off at the hotel. Just call the local phone number if any concerns. Hope you enjoy your travels!

The tour was a great way to see some amazing natural surroundings. The bus was clean and snacks and water were provided on the bus. John was very knowledgeable about the history of Alaska and made sure everyone had enough time to take photos.
